Youth Resources

What small, remote rural communities may lack in formal resources, they endeavour to make up for with informal networks; creating a sense of community. The Town of Golden, CSRD Area A, local sports groups, cultural organizations, service groups, non profit agencies and committed volunteers collectively offer youth a broad slate of activities, opportunities and services.
Our young people have access to some exceptional facilities and venues including land and water adventure sports, team sports, arts and culture festivals and events for spectators and performers. There are organizations and agencies to support youth through difficult times, promote good physical and mental health, help them find a job, access training opportunities, provide sexual health services, or simply offer a safe place to go.

Philosophy & History...

'Youth voice' and 'youth engagement' have come to be recognized as essential components of sustainable community development. 'Young' ideas and energy can invigorate projects, organizations and our community.
True inclusion and empowerment of youth begins with providing young people the opportunity to gain tangible skills, make real decision and contribute to their community in a meaningful way. As our young people grow to understand the systemic factors that affect their lives they will be ready to move forward as positive and constructive citizens and leaders. Youth participation needs to be strong and consistent. As a community we need structures in place that empower youth to have a voice and be engaged as decisions are made about issues that impact them.
GCRS supports youth initiatives by providing advocacy, mentorship and management structure.
