Community Resources

Picture
Golden Community Resources Society (GCRS) and the diverse programs under our umbrella are continually involved in exciting community initiatives.  Staff from all programs engage with the College of the Rockies, the Golden Family Centre, the Golden Women’s Resource Centre, Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy, the Golden Food Bank Society, Golden Area Initiatives, local schools, the Town of Golden, Kicking Horse Culture, Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Basin Trust, the Giving Tree Child Care Society, and the Golden & District Community Foundation to make positive change in Golden and our rural communities.

Highlights

Now is the right time for COMMUNITY PARTNERS to work together towards improving our social, environmental and economic well-being.  An exciting GCRS initiative ‘Creating a Community Team Model & Community Coordinator Role’ will focus on the social issue of understanding and communication – between non profit organizations and with the community at large. With inter-organization communication improved, collaboration becomes more appealing and feasible. Through collaboration, limited resources can be coordinated into quality of life-improving projects and programs.  Local groups and individuals will see the greater good that can be accomplished with others’ involvement and the assurance that they can play a role in a solution.  Then they can come together.

Watch our website for opportunities to become involved.

Community Development

Picture
The GCRS team members are committed community citizens, filling committee and board positions and participating in community events beyond their employment obligations.  As community volunteers they have contributed to the important work of the Golden Food Bank Society, Abbeyfield House Society, the Columbia Valley Credit Union, the Early Learning and Care Project, the Options for Sexual Health Clinic, the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce, School District #6, Kicking Horse Culture, the Independent School, the Mammography Clinic, Relay for Life, and Beavers, Brownies, Scouts and Girl Guides.   They have had fun coaching sports teams, judging the Christmas parade, manning the Kids Zone at the Trade Fair, painting faces and crafts for kids at Shop Fest and the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, and attending fundraising events that support our community and promote community spirit.
